Taiwan - Day 3

Taiwan - Day 3
we set off early 8am in the morning,
took a 2 1/2 hours train ride down to HuaLien
& had sushi while standing in front of all the seated passengers.
"a hungry man is an angry man"
so let's just not starve ourselves!!

train operator waiting for everyone to get onboard

could it be one of the mountains that we're gona hike?

we took the public bus up to Taroko National Park,
& approached the TNP HQ to enquire on nearest tourist attractions.
"1st, walk through the tunnel of roughly 1km & you'll find a hiking trail"

the tunnel is dark, long and creepy....
any vehicle passing through will bring forth roaring engine sounds
& there are even bats hanging upside down, trying to catch some nap time

1km tunnel with parts of it in almost total darkness;
we finally see light at the end of the tunnel

in my mind, "the group of tourists should be heading the same trail"

Shakadang Trail, here we go~~

nature at its best!!

it looks refreshing & we cant wait to find our way down to the stream

clear icy cold water that refreshes our mind & body

stream of gushing water

some Korean chicks

say cheese~~

some adventurous youths trying to climb rock & roar like tarzan

is there any other trail that we can go?

on our way back, we saw a bunch of China tourists.
no idea what they doing in the middle of the road.
taking photos with iPad??

anyway, we initially planned for some whale watching out in the sea,
but we realized that we didn't have enough time & it was drizzling on our way back.
so we spent the rest of the time waiting in 7-11 for our train to go back to Taipei

play with camera, chit chat bout our individual army experience, bla bla bla~~

proof of visit to XiMenDing =)

one of the old buildings in the area

on the way back, TienBoon was craving for cakes at this cafe....

85 Degree Celsius

btw, we saw a show on tv the previous night,
"Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations"
& it was talking bout Japanese chef's freshly made soba noodles.
thus, it made it to our list of cravings & will be served into our tummy

~ Taiwan - Day 3 has come to an end ~

Taiwan - Day 2

Day 2 - hearty breakfast at TB's highly recommended cafe
Apparently, it is also at ZhongShan Station Exit 2!!

Taiwanese waitress spotted~~ wooohoooo~~

<Melange Cafe>

they look so stylish in their cute uniforms

Starbucks coffee in Melange cafe?

everyone is just enjoying their time in the cafe;
catching up, savouring breakfast, creating pleasant memories

Irish dripped coffee

the level of attention to details just blows my mind

latte art

thick huge clunk of honey baked ham;
cant possibly ever forget the taste & can only crave for more
gona return for more in the future!!!

a small looking dessert that costs a bomb;
$2+ SGD, but it is worth every penny

breakfast done...
next, Taipei 101~~

*waiting for Taipei 101 shuttle bus*
join the queue for specific bus without any hassle
 rather than everyone trying to squeeze onto one in SG;
but I have to say that SG does not have the luxury of space to do that

non-stop chain of buses packed with tourists

we have to live with the fact that living in SG
will mean that we will never own a Rolls-Royce,
but it  is quite a common scene to see these cars on the streets

50岚 - KOI's originator
some random snack to fill our stomach
* HTC One owns 2 DSLR #justkidding *

since it was a cloudy day, I didnt feel like going up the observatory.
there is simply not enough time, I need to go shopping!!!
WuFenPu, the wholesale place to shop
too much shops, too little time......
*no time for photos*

anyway, lets tabulate the results of wave 1 of shopping
1 short sleeve shirt, 1 polo, 8 t-shirts

done shopping, dinner at nearby night market....
saw these cute yet pitiful little poodles....
if I could bring them back to Singapore~~~

exotic cat with leopard-like prints
how cool is that!?!? can even pass off as leopard =)

mango shaved ice
feeling quite full, but just eat whenever you get a chance

the non-stop eating has called for some yakult for help
& not just any yakult, we need an UPSIZED YAKULT

since I had enough shopping for now, I wana go for the scenery
we bought train tickets for Taiwan - Day 3;
HuaLien, Taroko National Park
that's where we're heading....

Taiwan - Day 1

6:52 PM Unknown 0 Comments

school semester has come to an end.......
& let's welcome the start of freakin' holiday~~
COZ TAIWAN AWAITS MY ARRIVAL!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Myth: you cant sleep comfortably on a budget flight
Test: on the night before our flight, I was at TienBoon house;
played GranTurismo5 & BattleField3 all night to exhaust ourselves
hoping that we can sleep throughout on the flight to Taiwan.
Conclusion: you really cant sleep comfortably on a budget flight
we were changing our sleeping posture every 15 mins;
resting on the headrest, fold-able dining table, our fist as support
madness.
enjoy the moment as the dawn is breaking
the seat with the tiny window
one of my goals is to work on board of these airplanes =)
for now, I will just have to fly with JetStar
part of Singapore that we will hardly see
touched down & took a bus to Taipei Main Station
Taipei Main Station - the zone we're staying for 10 whole days~
Starbucks is slightly different too
ham&cheese croissant + cookies&cream mocha
<time to check in MIYI Hotel>
Welcome to our humble little room
big enough for 2 & has everything we need
A big toilet with bathtub!!
anyway, we dropped our luggage & headed out to XiMenDing
every corner I turned, there were shops on the ground floor
bakeries, bubble tea shops, cafes, 7-11, restaurants
however, I find XiMenDing much like BugisStreet
& there was nothing that interests me
Next stop,
LeHuaNightMarket
this is a nightmarket for the locals, so not crowded at all
I wanted to try the snacks rather than main course
coz there's only that much space in my tummy
& I need to stuff as much good food as possible
Black Wild Boar Taiwan Sausage with garlic sauce
some sashimi love~
I'm impressed for a restaurant in the night market
freshly made mochi
green tea, sesame, peanut
thats all for the first day in Taiwan,
call it in early for a good night rest!!
